“The wisdom of the Maya captures the interest of foreigners”
Leonide Martin, a U.S. citizen currently residing in Mérida, and author of the book Dreaming the Maya Fifth Sun,
spoke yesterday on the wisdom teachings in Maya civilization to members of the International Women’s Club. This
group has a multinational membership of 120 women who reside in our state. Her lecture emphasized the increasing
interest of many foreigners in Maya spirituality. Many people now learn about Maya spiritual elements with a view to
achieving a harmonious relationship with their environment. Leonide Martin received instructions in Maya culture from
two Maya elders residing in the Yucatan, and a woman shaman from Guatemala. These teachings are featured in this
book, and in an upcoming book to be written here.
